The Shipbuilding Engineering Department is one of three Engineering departments at Heesen Yachts in Oss, the Netherlands. Other departments are, the Mechanical Engineering Department. Responsible for the technical details of the yacht and the Interior Engineering Department, responsible for the interior. In the Shipbuilding Engineering Department, you work on the complete technical design and construction of the yacht. You will be involved with the entire process from sketches through to the final crew handover.

A unique aspect of Heesen Yachts is that every yacht is built at the Heesen shipyard in Oss. With the production hall adjacent to your workplace you have the opportunity to see your ideas become a reality immediately. The Shipbuilding Engineering Department is an international dynamic environment where you will work in a close team with colleagues (around 25) who are just as passionate as you. Communication is direct within the company, while the atmosphere is open and informal. There is a high sense of quality and concentration.


As an Assistant Manager in the Shipbuilding Engineering Department, you will hold a complete overview of the department, ensure thorough planning throughout the construction process and you will set priorities, make decisions and implement adjustments where needed. All while guiding the challenging engineering process.

You understand the main features of each project, monitor project hours, assess the schedules, monitor standardization and ask critical questions when necessary.

As manager you translate the needs and confer analysis to facilitate and include the manager and the team in everything they need to be able to perform their tasks properly. In addition to substantive projects, you also work to increase standardization, develop procedures and establish improvement projects.

An important part of this role is the coaching and supervision of the team. You will support the manager in achieving our core values: professional ownership, customer-orientation, quality, knowledge, teamwork and trust. You do this from coaching and undertaking a facilitating role.


  • Bachelor or University degree in the field of shipbuilding;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an engineering project manager in shipbuilding;
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, standardization, planning and budget control;
  • analytically strong, practical and hands-on;
  • A comprehensive level of English and preferable Dutch.

Above this your (soft) skills are likewise that important. You are able to communicate proactively within the team and guide them where necessary. Ownership is of paramount importance to you and you will never let important matters pass by unattended. Within the team, you are approachable and have a natural affinity with personal relations. You dare to be critical and aim to bring out the best in the team. You think in terms of processes, problem-solving and pride yourself on understanding people, with excellent coaching qualities.
